Friday Mass has resumed for the term. It was encouraging to see so many students join us at 8.05 in the Chapel to pray in gratitude for the week.
It’s also a great way to begin the weekend. Please encourage your sons to join us each Friday morning in Term 4.
This week our elected leaders have participated in workshops to prepare them for the roles they have taken on for 2025.
Three of our young men attended the Marist Leaders’ conference, joining young leaders from many Marist schools to discern their roles. They were joined by the other elected leaders to look at their roles in our College context, and to set goals for the year.
As they journey throughout the year, we’d like to share their leadership journey. This begins today with 4 of our leaders introducing themselves and sharing a little about their motivation. In coming newsletters, we’ll share their goals and advertise the many initiatives they have discussed.
It looks like a great year ahead.

Domenico Cocco – College Captain
My name is Domenico Cocco and I am honoured to be the College Captain for 2024/2025. Over the five years that I have been at this school, I have come to love this place. St Greg’s is a community where we are all urged to do our best; whether it be in the classroom or on the sporting field, and it has become my home. As a community we thrive when, as individuals, we strive for excellence in our personal achievements, supported by peers and teachers which form a strong community and camaraderie. As your College Captain for this next year, I am eager to see what we can all achieve and would strive to further this culture of support and success rooted in a uniquely Marist love of work. I hope that in this next year, I am able to give back to this place and grow to the mantle that I have taken up, and most of all, ensure that St Greg’s continues to nurture and support young men as it has for me. I look forward to working with all of you.
Declan Malone – Leader of Marist Life
My name is Declan Malone and I am the Leader of Marist Life for Year 12 2025. My role as a St Greg’s Leader involves being a role model to others through leading by example in displaying the five Marist charisms. I applied for this role because I believed I could make a difference not just to the Marist values and way of the College, but to the overall culture and excellence of the College, something which I have always admired about St. Greg's. The Year 12 Leaders must embody the qualities of a person with a strong mind and gentle heart and be willing to dedicate their school lives to helping others and playing an active role in the College community. I believe I can effectively display these qualities of a good Leader and work together with the rest of our Leadership Team to have a great year.
Matthew Fitzgerald - Leader of Academia
My name is Matthew Fitzgerald and I am the Leader of Academia for 2025. I am excited for what this role will bring, and how I can leave an example for future Leaders. I know that, within the group of Leaders we have, there is plenty of potential to contribute to the culture of the College and introduce some positive changes that can have a lasting impact and create a legacy for the class of '25. Can't wait to get started!
Arthur Hackett – Leader of Wellbeing
Hello, my name is Arthur Hackett, and I’m honoured to be the College’s Student Leader of Wellbeing for 2025. I applied for this role because I am deeply passionate about fostering a positive and supportive environment where students can thrive, both mentally and physically. I believe that wellbeing is essential to success, and I want to help my peers discover their own sense of belonging and identity here at St Greg’s.
What excites me most about this role is the opportunity to build stronger connections within the school community and help students navigate the challenges they face day to day. I love the strong sense of unity at St Greg’s, and I’m proud to be part of a school that prioritises student well-being.
As I embark on this Leadership journey, my goal is to ensure that every student feels supported and encouraged to take care of both their mental and physical health. By fostering an atmosphere of care and understanding, we can create a school environment where every student not only achieves success but is also inspired to leave their own lasting legacy.
