Hola! Spanish in the Junior School

Term 3 has been very productive and filled with fun experiences thus far.

We have dedicated time to learn about farm animals, stating what we like and dislike, learning about Andean indigenous traditions and also expressing how we feel a little more confidently now.

Teachers and students greeting one another in Spanish is always fun to hear and when we have special visitors pop into the Spanish class, students can now fluently greet them at different times of the day with Buenos Dias or Buenas Tardes.

During Week 5 students prepared items to showcase at the Hispanic assembly. During this special assembly each class was able to present a focus topic. We had a range of performances and presentations. Dancing and singing from Kindergarten, a costume walk featuring Frida Kahlo and Mexican Alebrijes from Year 1, singing about the weather and family members with Year 2, Year 3 expressing likes and personal traits in Spanish, Year 4 presented the life of Selena Quintanilla with a short play and Hispanic Heritage month presentations as well.

Year 5 focused on a famous Peruvian Indigenous leader and other people who influenced Hispanic cultures and we finished with Year 6 presenting the Marist pillars we have focused on each week, all in Spanish of course.

I am so proud of all our students. We have definitely come a long way and we keep reinforcing our international mindedness, through storytelling, play and creative exploration every time we meet.
