Stage 6 Course Selection

It has been a very busy start to the term for our Year 10 students, as they begin the important process of Stage 6 subject selections. During Week 1, our Heads of Department provided a series of presentations to students, followed by the important Information Evening and Expo on Wednesday evening. This was a chance for students and parents to have important discussions with staff and gain a further understanding of the 37 subjects on offer for 2025. For those students who were absent on the evening, they will need to see Mr Duggan as soon as possible and engage fully in the selection process. Whilst some students have their sights on moving into employment at the end of the year, these plans can change and we do not want your son to be left in subjects that are not preferable for them in their senior schooling. The next stage will begin in Week 4 when mentor interviews are undertaken.

Year 7-10 Academic Awards Assembly

On Friday, we will recognise our outstanding academic achievements from Year 7-10 at the Academic Awards Assembly. These awards are based on Semester 1 results and all students who take the stage should be very proud of their efforts during Term 1 and 2. It has been wonderful to see so many students show improvements in grades and application to their study, and we look forward to seeing many proud parents at the Assembly.

Stage 5 Course Selection

Commencing this term will be our Stage 5 Subject Selection process when our Year 8 students have the opportunity to choose their elective subjects for Year 9 and 10. Further information regarding this will be communicated to our Year 8 parents shortly.

Homework Club and Maths Study

A reminder of our Homework Club and Mathematics Study, which are two of the fantastic out-of-school opportunities that the College offers students.

Homework Club is open every Monday afternoon from 3.15 - 4.15pm in the Marian Centre. During this time, students can complete homework and prepare for assessments in the supervised and friendly atmosphere of the Marian Centre. Homework Club is facilitated by the Academic Care Team and different KLA staff are available each week to help students.

Year 11 and 12 students have their own study area and there will be specific activities designed to assist our senior students in preparing for their HSC. Our Inclusive Education team will also be on hand to provide Year 7 – 10 students with assistance.

We would encourage all families, but particularly our Seniors, and our Year 7 students, to come and be a part of Homework Club.

Each Wednesday, the Mathematics staff also offer Mathematics Study from 3.15 - 4.15pm. Again, this is a wonderful opportunity for our boys to receive that extra little bit of assistance that will help them understand and excel in Mathematics.

Academic Care

Stage 4 – Mrs Rachel Newell

Academic Care sessions for Stage 4 have been spent reflecting on Semester 1 results and setting goals for the remainder of the year.  There has also been the chance to acknowledge a number of students who achieved well on their overall Semester 1 results. Students were recognised in areas such as Excellence in Work Habits, Growth in Work Habits, Growth in GPA and overall GPA High Achievers. A major focus of Academic Care is in promoting student growth, and these students are to be congratulated for their work ethic and exceptional attitudes which have allowed them to grow as learners this year.

Stage 5 – Mr Glenn Duggan

Year 10 will participate in course selection workshops with the Heads of Department. These workshops provide students with guidance on choosing subjects that align with their interests and academic goals. Year 9 students will have their Semester 1 reports analysed, followed by meetings to discuss their progress and make informed decisions about their future academic paths.

Stage 6 – Mrs Natasha Patao, Acting Academic Care Leader

Tem 3 is upon us, bringing with it a flurry of activity and critical milestones for our senior students. This term is pivotal for both Year 11 and Year 12, marked by important examinations and events that will shape their academic journeys.

Year 12 HSC Trials and Reflection Day

Year 12 students will commence their HSC Trials Examinations from Week 3, Monday, and will conclude by Week 5, Monday. This rigorous period of assessments is crucial as it prepares our students for their final HSC examinations. To support them, we have scheduled several presentations focusing on key topics such as “Maximising Marks in Examinations,” “The Dangers of Early Entry” and “Preparing for the HSC Examinations”. These sessions aim to provide valuable insights and strategies to help our students excel.

Following the HSC Trials, Year 12 students will participate in their Year 12 Reflection Day on Tuesday, 20th August. This day is designed to offer a moment of respite and contemplation, allowing students to reflect on their journey and focus on the road ahead.

Year 11 Yearly Examinations

Year 11 students will also face significant assessments with their Yearly Examinations scheduled during Weeks 9 and 10. These exams are essential in preparing our students for their final year of school, setting a solid foundation for their HSC studies. They will also engage with some presentations such as “Dropping Subjects” and “Maximising Marks”.

Support and Motivation Initiatives

We remain committed to supporting our students through their individual academic journeys. Our team is always available to offer guidance and advice as required. Following their return to school, Year 12 students will engage in their final course content and revision. Thank you to all the senior teachers as they continue to guide, support and teach our fine young men.

To boost motivation and maintain a strong desire to excel, we will implement some competitions in the final weeks of the term for Year 12. These initiatives are designed to inspire and encourage our students to give their best as they approach their final exams. We hope to finish the term in a positively competitive and engaging manner. We understand the pressures and challenges that come with this term, and we are dedicated to ensuring that every student has the resources and support they need to succeed. Let’s work together to make this term a productive and rewarding one.
