On Thursday 8 September, we hosted St Mary’s, Rydalmere in the second round of the Mark Taylor Shield. After just getting away with the win in the first round, the boys were very keen to come out firing. This was evident from the very first over when Liam McGettigan cleaned bowled the opening batsmen in the first two balls. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect start. The wickets kept tumbling as Humza Khan came in with beautiful line and length to rip through the middle order. The highlight of the day was a terrific catch from Oliver Trevitt diving backwards to pluck one out of the air. We completed the innings by dismissing St Mary’s for only 20 runs.
With a chance to give some boys an opportunity, we tweaked our batting line up which saw Charlie Farias and Lenny Ursino open the batting. A few quick boundaries from Charlie had us cruising before he fell to a cruel LBW decision. A few more wickets tumbled but the win was secured with Oliver and Lenny both finishing unbeaten.
Despite the early finish, it was great to watch our boys interact and play in a hit around game with St Mary’s. I was most impressed watching our boys offer advice and tips to the other boys who had never played cricket before.
This now sees us progress to the final eight of the competition which will take place early next term.
A big thank you to Aaron Consuji, Giles Consuji (Year 8), Jack Spragg (Year 10), Rebecca Spragg and all our parent spectators for their ongoing assistance throughout this tournament.
