It was my pleasure to be a part of the NSW CCC Rugby League trials on the 19th and 20th of May. The boys involved have been through a selection process earlier in Term 1 and were deserving participants. Our students have two possible teams to be selected in. The traditional pathway is the PDS team as well as the Metropolitan team which is a combination of students from PDS as well as students from the Broken Bay diocese. In total the College had 16 boys attend the carnival across the 4 teams, the largest representation in my 5 years involved and possibly the largest group of St Greg’s to attend the carnival.
Across the two days, the boys must play 3 games, with the end goal of being selected in the NSW CCC Rugby League squad. The boys involved were tremendous in each game they played showcasing their talents. In the U/15s PDS played against SCS (Sydney Catholic Schools) in the final and narrowly went down 12-10, with Tom Goodfield of Yr 9 being a part of that squad. Brock Achurch, Jake Gaffney and Kye Penfold were all part of the U/15s Metropolitan side which finished 4th overall.
In the U/18s First XIII, Captain Heath Mason and Lachlan Dooner were a part of a dominant PDS squad who won the overall carnival. Winning pool games 44-0 and 38-0 with both boys played key roles in those victories. In the final again against SCS, the boys were victorious 30-18. There were also 9 representatives who were part of the U/18s Metropolitan side who finished 3rd overall.

The U/15s will play in Port Macquarie in September, good luck to Tom and everyone involved at that carnival.
