Day 1- On September 4th, Year 5 went on camp to Canberra. On the way to Canberra we went to have morning tea at Berrima. Once we reached Canberra we went to the National arboretum for lunch. Our first presentation was at the National Gallery where we saw and learned about famous Australian artworks. After this we went to Geoscience Australia and learnt about how earthquakes work and why they happen. After Geoscience we went to a lookout called Mount Ainslie Lookout where we saw a view of all of Canberra from the top. After this we went to our accommodation in Canberra Park.
Day 2 of camp was filled with fun activities like going to the Royal Australian Mint, the Museum of Australian Democracy, National Electoral Education Centre, and later that day we even went to the Parliament House. There we got to learn about the three levels of parliament which are local, state and federal. After touring the House of Representatives and the Senate, 5M and 5B had the job to vote debate and argue and even got to read speeches in parliament - of course this was just role playing what actually happens in parliament.
Day 3 of camp was our last day at Canberra, we went to the Government House where we saw where the Governor General would have a meal when she had fancy guests over. We also had a look at the outside of the house from the side and we saw where different people had to enter to get to the house. Next we went to the Australian War Memorial where we learnt about how young Australians who either went to WW1 or WW2 and fought for our country in the Army or the Navy. Last but not least, we went to Questacon where we got to look at a lot of science experiments and displays that were very interactive for us to see how it works. After this we headed back home to Sydney after these fun 3 days we had in Canberra.
